The Managing Partner of Paul Usoro & Co., Mrs. Mfon Usoro, in her capacity as the Secretary General, Abuja Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control will be speaking at the International Maritime Organization Conference on Sustainable Blue Economy (the “Conference”) holding from 26 – 28 November 2018 at Nairobi, Kenya.
Mrs. Usoro is featured to speak at the Conference Side Event on “How can States leverage the sustainable Blue Economy in their national policies and plans to strengthen implementation of the 2030 Agenda, African Union Agenda 2063, the 2050 Africa Integrated Maritime Strategy and related intergovernmental agreements, promote synergies and address negative trade-offs”.
The Conference realizes that a holistic approach to balance the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development in relations to oceans is a key component of the Blue Economy. The Conference seeks to bring together committed Members States of the African Union and IMO, United Nations agencies, national governments, regional and international development agencies, development and financial institutions, maritime professionals and experts, civil societies, port authorities, port management associations, shipowner and fishing vessel owner organizations, relevant universities, training institutions, relevant businesses and the private sector.
The primary objective of the Conference is to discuss, explore, and provide guidance on how national governments may leverage on the blue economy for sustainable wealth creation and formulate strategies and blue prints to exploit the African Maritime Domain, amongst other numerous objectives.
